Manager / SENCO

NVQ Level 3
Deputy DSO
Paediatric First Aid
Safeguarding Officer
Domestic Abuse Champion

Hello, my name is Karen and I have been working at New Millside for over 10 years, starting as an Assistant and now Manager, SENDCo and Deputy DSO.

I have 3 children ranging from 37 to 18 years old and 3 grandchildren age 12 to 4. All three of my grandchildren attended New Millside, the youngest still attends, and my youngest daughter also attended.
I think this gives me a great understanding of the concerns, wishes, aspirations and needs from all perspectives.  I am committed to the idea of ‘every child is a unique child’ and am passionate about getting to know fully every child at New Millside, so that I can help them to feel completely safe and understood.  I feel strongly that a positive first experience of education is essential and at this age that means a place where you feel acknowledged, praised and encouraged.

I have a Diploma Level 3 in Childcare & Development, SENDCo training, designated safeguarding officer training, Advanced Speech & Language training and a variety of child development courses including English as an Additional Language and Makaton, Pediatric First Aid & Epilepsy.  I am currently working towards a Diploma in Autism Awareness and have completed levels 1 to 3 in Autism Awareness which includes managing a setting and teaching autism awareness. I have a good basic understanding of French and Spanish.
